Geology at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo

Geology is the foundation ...

... of all aspects of the earth sciences. Studying geology gives you maximum flexibility in how you can steer your career in the earth sciences over time, for example by achieving the Professional Geologist license in California.

You will also have a great time studying geology: we have a small, close-knit, group of students that work and hang out in the geology classroom, and you will take a lot of field trips together.

The geology programs are jointly offered by faculty and courses from the Physics Department (Garcia, Jasbinsek, and Johnston) and the Natural Resources and Environmental Earth Sciences (NRES) Department. Therefore in addition to geology, students are exposed to a broad range of soil science, hydrology, and other earth science courses.
